Indian cooking represents several cultures with a number of different dishes and many more types of different culinary activities.
From brewing to steaming and from frying to grilling, you have everything to do. That's the reason why some recipes are better cooked on a gas hob, and some are good to be cooked in an oven.
However, we are sharing three superbly delicious recipes that can be cooked both in a microwave oven and a gas hob.
Our first recipe is Tandoori Chicken. The food cooked in a Tandoor is prefixed as Tandoori. Tandoor is a traditional method of cooking food by roasting it in a confined urn-shaped clay oven. It is traditionally used to cook meat.
However, constructing a clay oven is impossible with modern urban residential limitations, flat-system, and compact homes.
A gas hob or an oven is what your need to work on!
So, here's how you can cook Tandoori Chicken on a gas hob and then in a convection oven.
Tandoori Chicken
Ingredients
- 1 Kg chicken
- 1 teaspoon garlic paste
- 1 teaspoon ginger paste
- 1 cup yogurt
- 1 tablespoon salt
- ΒΌ teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon garam masala
- 1 teaspoon chilli powder
- 2 teaspoon coriander powder
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper powder
- Oil
Common Preparation
- Wash Chicken thoroughly. Drain all the water.
- Make sleek cuts on the chicken so that the masala penetrates inside properly when you marinate.
- Take this chicken in a bowl and add yogurt, garam masala, chilli powder, ginger and garlic paste, turmeric powder, and salt.
- Mix and rub well to coat the chicken well with the spices.
- Keep it aside for about 30 min.
Procedure for Gas hob
- Place a Pan on Altius FS 378 Built-In Fully Sealed Gas Hob and add 2 teaspoon of oil to it, and spread throughout the Pan
- The uniform flame distribution of this hob will heat the Pan on all sides and give a uniform heat to the chicken
- Add salted butter and let it melt
- Now, put the marinated chicken straight into the Pan and let it roast on both sides.
- The roasted chicken should look like the one in the picture, like a Tandoor roasted chicken.
- However, we still do not have the smoky flavor of Tandoor.
- Therefore, burn a charcoal piece to red-hot on the gas flame, and once it is sufficiently hot, place it into a small steel glass.
- Keep the glass in the Pan and add some two-three drops of oil to it
- You will see a sudden release of smoke.
- Close it immediately with a lid and let the smoke blend in with the chicken.
Your Tandoori Chickens with a gas hob are ready to serve!
Microwave Procedure
Your oven-cooked Tandoor chicken is ready! A convection oven gives the exact flavor of a Tandoor oven; therefore, you need not use a charcoal trick here.
Our following recipe is a south-Indian delicacy Idli. Idli is traditionally steamed in an Idli maker. However, we will also see how it can be made in Hafele's combi steam oven.
Idli
Ingredients
- 2 cup Idli rice
- 1 cup urad dal
- Water for soaking and grinding
- Salt as required
- Oil as required
Common Preparation
- Rinse thoroughly and soak Urad dal and rice for 4 hours
- After 4 hours, drain all the water and grind the rice and dal in Hafele's Cuatro Vacuum Mixer & Grinder.
- Let it blend into a smooth paste. If needed, add some water; however, make sure you add less water as we need a thick paste
- Mix well and keep it in a bowl covered with a lid to ferment for about 8 hours
- After 8 hours, the mixture will have risen due to fermentation. This is also a sign of the fermentation going well.
- Now, add salt to this batter and mix well again.
Idli On A Gas Hob
- You will need an Idli cooker for this.
- Grease the idli molds with oil and fill them with the batter.
- Place the Idli cooker on your ZETA 590 Built-In gas hob
- Put the flame per the cooker's bottom surface and steam the idlis for 10 minutes.
- Once done, lower the flame and keep it for another 5 min.
Your hot steamed Idlis are ready to be served.
Idli In Combi Steam Oven
- Take a microwave-safe bowl and add some water to it
- Next, take the Idli steam mold plate
- Grease the molds with oil
- Pour the batter into all the mold slots
- Place this plate in the bowl, cover it with a lid and put the bowl in your J34MCST Combi Steam Microwave oven
- Steam the Idlis for 2 min.
In the combi steam oven, the steaming takes just 2 min, and the Idlis are ready to be served!
Our third and last recipe is Kheer; of course, a dessert is a must to end our article!
So, Kheer is a dish that needs lots of simmering without the bottom getting burnt. Therefore using Hafele's Vortex series hob is a must to make the Kheer.
Besides, as a part of the theme of our article today, we will check out its microwave method too.
Rice Kheer
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup rice
- 2 cups water
- 1 cup milk
- Sugar as you like
- A pinch of cardamom powder
- A pinch of saffron strands to garnish (optional)
Gas Hob Method
- Rinse rice and soak in water for 15 to 20 mins
- Heat milk in a deep pan with the help of your Vortex 460
Vortex series gas hobs from Hafele come with Flame Drape Effect that gives you the most balanced flame. The web of this distinct flame creates a drape effect, where the flame rises vertically and drapes itself around any type of cooking vessel; quite akin to a piece of cloth that seamlessly covers objects of varying shapes.
This significantly reduces unnecessary heat transfer outside the cooking zone, whether in a flat pan or a round pot. The flame-drape effect results in overall heating efficiency and enhanced burner performance.
- Keep the pan on low heat. Stir at intervals, so the milk does not stick to the bottom of the pan.
- Let the milk simmer
- Take some milk in a small bowl and add saffron strands to the milk. Keep aside
- Drain all the water from the soaked rice and add it to the simmering milk
- Simmer and cook rice on low heat. No need to cover the pan when the rice is cooking.
- Cook the rice grains till they are 50% done or half-cooked.
- Add sugar and let it simmer further
- Cook the rice thoroughly, and as you see it done, add cardamom powder to the Kheer
- Add the saffron milk and give it a mix
- When you get the right consistency, switch off the flame
Your delicious Kheer is ready to be served!
Microwave Method
- Rinse rice thoroughly
- In a large microwave-safe bowl, add rice and water and put it in your Diamond 77 MWO Built-In Oven
- Cook on full power for 10 minutes till the rice is cooked
- Drain excess water and pour in the milk and sugar. Stir well
- Put it back in the microwave and cook for a total of 8 minutes, stirring after every 2 minutes
- Make sure the milk doesn't spill over
- Remove the bowl from the oven and add cardamom powder and mix well
Your Kheer is ready to be served. Garnish with saffron strands!
