Diwali is one of the biggest and most popular festivals in India. It is the time of the year when families come together. Children enjoy Diwali Vacations and get to spend time with cousins while munching on Diwali Faral (Diwali Special Snacks).

From Chakli and Chivada to Ladoo and Gujia, a variety of delicacies are included in the Diwali Faral thali.

Hafele appliances such as kitchen machines and deep fryers assist in preparing these dishes.

Families participate in these activities, and it feels like a festive home.

While you may find a number of articles with Faral recipes at this point, we at Hafele decided to add a Chatpata twist to the regular Faral recipes.

Let's begin!

The first recipe we'll start with is a traditional dessert from Andhra. Often prepared during Diwali, these toffy look-alike sweets will be a big surprise for the Baccha Party.

Teepi Gavvalu

Ingredients

  • 2 cups Maida
  • Salt as per taste
  • 2 tbsp. melted Ghee
  • Water as required
  • Jaggery as required
  • 1 cup Water
  • 4-5 green Cardamoms
  • Oil

Method

  • Add Maida, Ghee, and salt into Hafele's Klara Highline kitchen machine dough pot and add water slowly to this mixture until a soft dough ball is finally kneaded.

Using a kitchen machine for this dough will save lots of effort and time, as this dough requires to be kneaded after frequent intervals until the dough is super soft.

With Klara, this repeated kneading is unnecessary; you can get the soft dough within one cycle of the machine.

  • Once done, keep it aside until we prepare Jaggery syrup.
  • Take a deep pot and add Jaggery and water. Start heating it on a low flame.
  • As it melts, add crushed cardamom powder and keep it simmering on low flame until the syrup thickens.
  • To check whether you have reached the right consistency, add a drop of this syrup to a glass of water. With the help of a chopstick, form a ball-like structure, and if you are able to roll this drop of syrup, then be assured the consistency is just right. Turn off the flame.
  • Meanwhile, our dough must be ready. Make small dough balls about an inch in diameter. Shape the Gevvalu into a comb-like pattern with a fork or grater, as shown in the pic.
  • Put oil in Hafele's SAUVE 01 built-in deep fryer and deep fry these Gavvalus until you get a uniform brown color. Allow them to sizzle, which is also one of the signs of they being cooked properly.
  • Fry all the balls similarly.
  • Thoroughly coat each Gavvalu with jaggery syrup and leave until they reach room temperature.
  • You must be very careful while doing this, as the jaggery syrup is hot and will start to thicken and dry soon.

Upon completely cooling, your Gavvalus are ready to be served! You can store these in a sterilized, airtight container for a longer time.

Palak Chakli

Ingredients

  • 2 cup Rice flour
  • 2 tbsp roasted chana dal powder
  • ½ cup regular besan
  • 2 tsp Butter
  • 1/2 bowl Spinach leaves (approx. 18-20)
  • 1 tsp Sesame seed
  • Salt as per taste
  • Oil sufficient for frying
  • Water as needed

Method

  • Wash spinach leaves and add them to Hafele's Klara Highline pro kitchen machine to get a well-blended mixture. Keep aside.

Its high-speed glass blender of 1.5 L capacity is perfect for any kind of puree, smoothie, sauce-making, and more. The final blend is smooth without any lumps due to the Planetary motion feature of this kitchen machine, which is essential for our chakli.

  • Take rice flour, roasted gram powder, besan, sesame seed, and salt in the same kitchen machine jar, and turn it on once to give it a good mix.
  • Add butter and spinach puree to the mix and knead a smooth dough. If needed, add water as required to get a soft dough.
  • With the help of the Chakli maker, squeeze out the dough in a concentric circle shape and make similar chaklis until all the dough is finished.

If you have made enough chaklis and the dough is still remaining, store it in Hafele's NR300NF built-in refrigerator for next time. However, remember we have used puree in it, so try to make the remaining Chaklis within two weeks.

  • Heat oil in Hafele's SAUVE 01 Built-In Deep Fryer and drop a small piece of dough into it. If it sizzles instantly, your oil is perfect for deep frying.
  • Fry all the chaklis, 2-3 at a time, and place them on tissue paper. Transfer the chaklis to an airtight container and enjoy.

Kesar Kaju Katli

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Cashew nuts
  • ½ cup Sugar
  • Pinch of Saffron strands
  • Water as needed
  • 2 Cardamom
  • Ghee as required
  • 8-10 Pista/Almonds

Method

  • Grind cashew nuts in the dry grinder jar of Hafele's Klara Highline - Gothic Grey to make a smooth fine powder. Keep aside
  • Heat water and sugar in a heavy-bottomed pan. Let it simmer until you get a syrup-like consistency.
  • Take a drop between your index finger and thumb to check if the consistency is right as you pull both fingers apart. If a single string of the sticky syrup forms without breaking, you have got the right consistency.
  • Add the crushed saffron and mix well until you get the yellow colour to the syrup.
  • Thenadd cashew powder to the solution. Mix well on low flame.
  • Stir continuously until the mixture becomes thick
  • Let it cool down a bit. When just warm, knead it into the kitchen machine to make a smooth dough.
  • Place some of it on butter paper and spread it out with a rolling pin. The edge should be thick, about 1 cm or so.
  • Cut the rolled dough into rhombus-shaped pieces.
  • Repeat for all the dough

Khava/Khoya/Mawa Karanji

Ingredient

For outer cover

  • 1 cup Maida
  • 1 tbsp Ghee
  • Salt as per taste
  • Water as required

For stuffing

  • ½ cup Khava
  • Chopped dry fruits ½ bowl (raisins, almonds, cashews)
  • 1 tbsp coconut powder
  • ½ bowl sugar
  • ¼ tsp green cardamom powder
  • 1 pinch of nutmeg powder
  • Oil for frying

Method

  • Heat Khava in a pan on medium heat. Stir continuously until it starts melting.
  • Use Hafele's Altius FS 378 Built-In Fully Sealed Gas Hobfor this, as you need to use the gas stove for a longer time, and the heat will be consistent with the gas hob.

The burners in Altius FS Hobs provide a focused flame output which is delivered vertically, directly under the pan. This ensures that no heat is wasted around the sides and the flame is spread uniformly across the cookware to consistently achieve the best cooking results without burning.

  • Continue heating until it becomes light brown, and turn off the heat. Let the mixture cool down.
  • As the Khava cools down, knead smooth dough in Hafele's kitchen machine from all-purpose flour, salt, water, and Ghee. Let it rest for half an hour.
  • Meanwhile, the Khava is cooled down. Add sugar, cardamom powder, nutmeg, cashews, almonds, and raisins to the warm Khava.
  • Ensure that Khava is warm only and not hot, as we don't want the sugar to melt.
  • Mix everything well, and your karanji stuffing is ready.
  • Now, make small balls of dough and roll out small puris. Roll the puris as thin as you can.
  • Fill its center with stuffing. Apply some water around the edge and fold them into half circles. The final ones look like the ones in the image.
  • You can use Karanji mold for this for the proper sealing of edges.
  • Make the rest of the Karanjis and fry them until golden brown in Hafele’s SAUVE 01 Built-In Deep Fryer
