Delicious Eid recipes using the Hafele built-in oven

From the sizzling crackle of meat being seared on the tandoor to the pleasing aroma of Sheer Khurma wafting from many homes around this time - these signs tell us that Eid is right around the corner and the long fast of Ramadan is about to end. Preparing good food is an integral part of this festival, but so is running around doing too many tasks such as slow cooking stews, ferociously stirring curries, and grilling perfect kebabs every day.

But, not everyone owns a tandoor at home! And this is where the Hafele built-in ovens come to your rescue, as you can grill, roast, bake and make a variety of choicest Eid delicacies - all in one place. Less time and effort is spent cooking the same food, and just like that, your holiday stress gets evaporated! So here are a few easy recipes to try in the Hafele baking appliances, this Eid.

1. Mutton Seekh Kebabs


Portion size serves 4
Time required - 1 hour

Devouring pieces of succulent, juicy kebabs is what the spirit of Eid is all about! Here's an easy recipe for Seekh kebabs to get the Iftar festivities rolling ahead.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups Mutton, minced
  • 2 Onions, finely chopped
  • ½ tbsp Garlic paste
  • ½ tbsp Ginger paste
  • ½ tbsp Cumin powder
  • ½ tbsp Red chilli powder
  • ¼ tbsp Garam masala powder
  • 1 tbsp Coriander leaves, chopped
  • ½ tbsp Chaat masala
  • 1 tbsp Green chillies, finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp Butter, melted
  • 1 tbsp Ghee
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice

Method

  • Grind the minced mutton, chopped onions, green chillies, and coriander leaves together to combine into a thick paste. Transfer this mixture into a bowl.
  • Add the ginger garlic paste, salt, and all the spices to the bowl. Mix well.
  • Pour the ghee and knead the mixture like a dough for 2 to 3 minutes.
  • Cover the bowl with a lid, refrigerate, and let it marinate for 1 hour.
  • Remove the marinated keema from the fridge and then preheat the oven to 230°C
  • Divide the mixture into 10 equal portions and shape each portion into a tube around a skewer, patting with slightly moist hands.
  • Place all the kebab skewers onto a grill rack in the oven
  • Bake for 20 minutes and rotate the kebabs at intervals to get a nice reddish brown colour. Brush with butter on each side as required.
  • Garnish with chaat masala and lemon juice. Serve hot with green chutney!

2. Tandoori Lamb Chops

With the Hafele built-in ovens you can easily bake or grill lamb chops, without creating a humongous mess in your oven. Here’s a quick recipe that saves you from ordering takeout, this Eid!

Ingredients

  • 1 kg Lamb chops
  • 4 Garlic cloves
  • 1 tbsp Ginger, grated
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 6 Green chillies
  • 1 tbsp Coriander
  • 2 tsp Cardamom powder
  • 1 tsp Red chilli powder
  • 1 tsp Cinnamon powder
  • 1 tsp Black pepper, ground
  • 1 tsp garam masala
  • 4 Cloves
  • 2 Bay leaves
  • 2 tbsp cooking oil
  • A pinch of Saffron strands
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 onion, peeled and sliced

Method

  • Grind the garlic, ginger, lemon juice, and all the spices along with the cooking oil to a smooth, thick paste. Keep the onion and 3 green chillies aside for the garnish.
  • Prick each lamb chop with a fork and add all the pieces to a mixing bowl.
  • Mix in the spice paste with the lamb, and marinate in the fridge overnight.
  • Preheat the oven to 200°C
  • Line the baking tray with aluminium foil and place the lamb chops over it.
  • Bake in the center of the oven for 30 minutes or until the chops turn crispy and slightly charred. Ensure to turn the pieces around halfway through the baking process so that they are nicely browned on both sides.
  • Drain off the excess liquid from the baking tray, so that the chops don’t turn soggy. You can save this gravy for later.
  • Garnish with sliced onions, green chillies, and the leftover gravy.
  • Serve hot and enjoy!

3. Kleicha (Date Cookies)

It is customary to break the fast with this sweet fruit, just as the Prophet Mohammed did aeons ago. So, here’s how you can give a delicious twist to breaking your fast by preparing kleichas. An ancient Iraqi dessert, these baked cookies are packed with a thick date filling that is bound to appeal to your sweet tooth! Here’s a simple sugar-free recipe that you can prepare in the Hafele baking ovens:

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Almonds, ground
  • 1 cup Dates, deseeded
  • 150 gms Rice flour
  • 2 tbsp Milk
  • 4 tbsp Honey
  • 6 tbsp Coconut oil
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Cinnamon powder
  • 1 tsp Cardamom powder
  • 1 tsp Cocoa powder
  • ½ cup Water
  • 1 tsp Sesame seeds

Method

  • Add the rice flour, almonds, salt, ½ tsp cinnamon, ½ tsp cardamom powder in a bowl.
  • Pour the coconut oil and honey into the bowl. Mix everything. Then, add the milk 1 tbsp at a time and combine well to make a dough.
  • Set the dough aside in the fridge for an hour.
  • Add the dates, cocoa powder, ½ tsp cinnamon, and ½ tsp cardamom powder to a pan to prepare the date filling for the cookies.
  • Heat the pan, add some water, and mash the dates well. (The amount of water depends on how dry the dates are.) Keep stirring and adding water till you get a thick, sticky paste that is the right texture to be spread. Your date filling should be ready.
  • Preheat the oven to 180°C
  • Remove the dough from the fridge; place it on a piece of parchment paper; and roll the dough into a flat, quarter inch rectangle.
  • Spread the date filling onto the dough, leaving the edges clear. Then, Take one side of the dough; roll it into a log; and slice into inch thick cookies.
  • Transfer these cookies onto a baking sheet and garnish with sesame seeds
  • Bake for 20 minutes or until the cookies turn golden brown.
  • Set them aside to cool and store in the fridge.
  • Serve and enjoy!
